Margaret Talev is the Kramer Director of the Syracuse University Institute for Democracy, Journalism and Citizenship, a joint effort of the Newhouse School and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, based in Washington, D.C. Talev is a journalist and professor of practice at the Newhouse School. She has covered of directed coverage of the White House, Congress, and presidential elections as well as local and state news in Florida and California. She is a past president of the White House Correspondents’ Association. She is senior contributor at Axios and a frequent political analyst on CNN, NPR, Sirius XM and other major outlets.

Nayyera Haq is a highly respected communications expert, trusted by global leaders and organizations to elevate their public presence. With a career spanning government, media and the corporate world, Nayyera has prepared executives, policymakers and thought leaders for speeches at the United Nations, global leadership conferences and boardrooms of Fortune 500 companies. Her unique experience as a former White House senior director and global affairs analyst for CNN and MS NOW enables her to offer unparalleled insights into leadership, messaging, and media strategy. Prior to joining Maxwell, Haq worked as a consultant advising global CEO’s and nonprofit leaders on how to navigate transitions and social change. She has also worked as a news anchor, radio host and contributing columnist for national news organizations.
Beverly Kirk

Beverly Kirk joined the Newhouse School in 2022 as Director of Washington Programs and Professor of Practice in broadcast and digital journalism. In this position, she works to expand and lead the school’s Washington, D.C. student programs across multiple communications majors, with a primary focus on journalism and public relations. She is a seasoned professional with more than two decades of experience in journalism and most recently served as executive director of JOURNEY to Lead, a nonprofit women’s leadership initiative. She is a non-resident senior associate of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) International Security Program and a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She spent more than two decades as a journalist for local and national news organizations including NBC, NPR and PBS.
